The Phoenix - a 22m Mussel Farm Service Vessel

Challenge Marine proudly launched the Phoenix in early November 2009. Designed by Richard McBride, she is a 22m alloy vessel destined for general maintenance work on a Coromandel Mussel Farm, built for Greenshell NZ Ltd.

The Phoenix has some similarities to the Northern Quest, a product of the same design and build team, completed in 2008.

Our team from Fluid Power Solutions designed and installed all the hydraulic systems for the Phoenix, including all winching gear, anchor winch and controls for the Palfinger crane on board.

Gary Allen managed the project from the FPS end. "The work on the Phoenix was a great example of why Challenge NZ works - we could dovetail our skills and work in with what Challenge Marine were doing. We all drew on the experience gained in working together on the Northern Quest in 2008. This is a similar vessel, but with her purpose slightly different, with a more general farm maintenance focus, we have developed slightly different controls and equipment"
